A solar call center script qualifies homeowners for a solar installer: the caller must own the home, the roof must suit panels and the monthly electric bill must be high enough to make solar worthwhile. Qualified homeowners are transferred or booked with the installer. Below is a sample script you can adapt, with common objections and what gets a transfer rejected.
Solar fronter script
This is a sample. Run the script and disclosures your compliance team has approved for your campaign and your states.
- 01
“Hi, this is [Agent name] with [Company name] on a recorded line. You asked about lowering your electric bill with solar. Do you have a minute?”
- Read your approved disclosure here. [Your required disclosure]
- 02
“Do you own your home, or do you rent?”
- 03
“Roughly how much is your monthly electric bill?”
- 04
“Which utility company do you use?”
- 05
“Is your roof in good condition and mostly free of heavy shade?”
- Renters, low bills or unsuitable roofs: thank the caller and end politely.
- 06
“Great, you look like a good fit. I'll connect you with a solar specialist who can show you the numbers for your home.”
Solar objections and rebuttals
What callers say most often, and a compliant answer for each. Acknowledge, answer briefly, then move the call forward or end it.
Caller: “Solar is too expensive.”
“I understand. I can't promise savings, but the specialist can show you real numbers for your home, and there's no obligation.”
Caller: “I already got a quote.”
“That's helpful. A second look can't hurt, and the specialist can go through it with you if you'd like.”
Caller: “How did you get my number?”
“[State your lead source exactly as your compliance team approves it.]”
Caller: “Take me off your list.”
“Of course. I'm marking your number as do not call right now, and you won't hear from us again. Have a good day.”
End the call straight away. Do not rebut, do not ask why. Mark the number DNC before the next dial.
The transfer handoff
- 01
“Hi [Specialist name], I have [Caller first name] on the line. They own the home, use [utility], and their bill is about [amount] a month.”
- Stay on until the specialist answers and greets the caller, then drop. No answer means a booked appointment.
What gets a transfer rejected
- The caller rents or does not own the home
- The monthly bill is below the installer's threshold
- The roof is heavily shaded or needs replacing
- The utility or area is outside the installer's service map
- Dead air or the caller dropped before the specialist answered
Before you run it
- Never promise savings or specific incentives
- Make clear who you are calling on behalf of
- Record every call
- Honor do-not-call requests immediately
