ViciDial is an open-source contact-center and predictive dialer platform built on the Asterisk phone system. Outbound call centers use it widely because it is free to license, can be self-hosted, and handles campaigns, lists, predictive dialing, transfers, recording and reporting in one system. Most offshore floors running US campaigns know it well.

Its ubiquity in the offshore campaign market means dialer integration is usually the first technical question a bot vendor is asked.

How a floor uses ViciDial

A typical setup in Lahore or Noida has a ViciDial server, or a small cluster, connected to one or more SIP trunks from a US carrier. The admin creates an outbound campaign, loads lead lists, sets the dial method and dial level, and assigns agents. A separate closer campaign or in-group receives transfers. Agents log in through the browser-based agent screen and take calls the dialer connects to them.

The admin side controls nearly everything: local call time for calling windows, AMD settings, lead recycling, DNC lists, statuses, scripts, recording and caller ID per campaign. That flexibility is the reason ViciDial is popular, and also why two floors on the same software can perform very differently.

On a live call

The dialer pulls leads from its hopper, places calls across the trunk, and passes answered calls to a ready agent. The agent sees the lead details and any script on screen, talks to the caller, then either transfers to the closer in-group or picks a status such as NI, DNC or CALLBK. That status updates the lead and decides when, or whether, it is dialed again. Notes typed into the comments field stay with the lead for the closer and for QA.

Reports managers read

The real-time report shows each agent's state (ready, in call, paused, dispositioning) and the dialer's current level and drop rate. Outbound calling and status reports show dispositions per campaign and list. Agent performance reports show talk time, pause time and outcomes per agent. Most floors also export recordings and status counts to share with the US client.

Common mistakes

Leaving local call time on a default that does not match the campaign's states.

Setting the dial level high to keep agents busy and letting the drop rate climb past the limit.

Too many custom statuses, so reports become hard to read.

Running an old version that nobody patches. A self-hosted dialer is only as secure as its admin keeps it.

Sharing one set of caller IDs across every campaign, so one bad list damages all of them.

ViciDial and voice bots

Because ViciDial is open source and well documented, voice bots commonly connect to it by logging in like an agent, taking calls from the same campaign and using the same transfer and status options. That keeps lists, recordings, caller IDs and reports in the floor's own dialer. Before connecting anything, check which version you run and how transfers to your closer in-group are set up.
